• Slow down during whale season or in areas where whales are more concentrated.
  • Always keep a sharp look out for whales in your area. If possible post a responsible individual toward the front of the vessel to watch for whales and to assist in maneuvering.

Do not assume that the animal will get out of your way. Hitting a 40-ton animal at any

speed greater than 10 knots will likely damage the vessel and injure those aboard, besides it´s a Federal offence.  Studies indicate collisions are less frequent and less severe when vessels make 13 knots or less.

Responsible and authorized whale watching permits are required in Mexican waters and are issued by the wildlife ministry of Mexico (SEMARNAT).
